When a term crosses the equals sign, its sign flips. Forgetting this is one of the single biggest sources of wrong answers in algebra questions. Write out the flip as its own step instead of doing it in your head.
3½ and 3/½ are very different numbers. Under exam pressure, it's easy to misread a mixed number as a division. Slow down for one extra second on any question with a fraction.
If you get 8/4 but the options only show 2, you haven't finished the question, you've just stopped solving it. Always simplify or convert your answer to match the form the options are given in.
